How accurate is the solar calculator?

It is an indicative model, not a design. It works from the roof outline you draw, the orientation and roof type you select and the consumption figures you enter, then applies published UK yield and cost assumptions. A feasibility study using your half hourly data will produce different numbers.

Do I have to give my details to see the results?

We ask for contact details at the final step so we can send the assessment and follow it up with a person who can answer questions. The figures are shown to you on screen immediately afterwards and you can download them as a PDF.

What does the payback figure include?

Accepted Answer

It is a simple payback: the indicative installed cost divided by the estimated first year saving from avoided imports plus export income. It does not discount future cash flows or assume energy price inflation.

Question 4

Can I use it if I do not know my consumption?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Enter your average monthly electricity spend instead and the model converts it to kilowatt hours using a default unit rate, which you can override if you know your own.
