Your distribution network operator is UK Power Networks
Peterborough is served by UK Power Networks through the Eastern Power Networks licence area, which covers the East of England. It is the same operator as London but a different licence area, so quote Eastern rather than London on any application.
Commercial arrays are applied for under G99 and need approval before energisation. UK Power Networks publish their application routes and capacity information, and on the large roofs common here that capacity check is worth doing before the design is fixed.
The East of England already hosts a considerable amount of distributed generation, including ground mounted solar on agricultural land. On some feeders that means export headroom is the constraint, and an export limited design is the usual practical answer.

Distribution sheds and the self consumption question
The distribution and warehousing estate here offers very large, uninterrupted, modern profiled metal roofs, which are the cheapest roofs in the country to install on and structurally the best understood.
The risk is that the roof area far exceeds the load. A conventional storage and cross docking operation with forklift charging and lighting may consume only a fraction of what its roof could generate, and generation exported at a low rate is worth a small share of generation used on site.
The answer is to size the array against measured consumption first and against roof area second. Where a genuine commercial case for export exists, that is a separate decision made with the export rate in front of you.

Food logistics and chilled distribution
Peterborough's concentration of food processing and chilled distribution changes the picture entirely, because refrigeration produces a heavy continuous load that absorbs everything a large roof can generate.
On chilled and frozen sites the array is limited by roof area rather than by demand, which is the ideal position. It also makes storage less compelling, because there is rarely a surplus to store.
These sites bring their own constraints: continuous operation, hygiene management, restricted shutdown windows and, on frozen sites, roof insulation build ups that affect how mounting is fixed. All of that belongs in the survey.

Fleet charging and the case for planning both together
Distribution sites are the buildings most exposed to fleet electrification, and van and heavy vehicle charging represents a much larger new load than most operators expect.
That load is what converts a surplus generating roof into a self consuming one, and it is also what most often triggers a supply capacity question. Applying for a connection once, with both the array and the charging in scope, is cheaper and faster than applying twice.
Solar will not power rapid charging directly, since instantaneous charging demand exceeds rooftop output, but it substantially offsets the daytime energy and depot charging that runs alongside it.
